Ability Awareness Through My Lens Post 30

Monday March 2nd, 2020 kicking off this weeks Vlog/Blog we had the pleasure of having author Katherine Jones.

Katherine wrote: Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "Do something everyday that scares you." I did that recently. Let me explain.

Most of you know I authored a book entitled, "Foster Cat Foster Kid God Says You Don't Have to Eat Dirt Anymore!" My book was released in October of 2015, at which time a family member was diagnosed with cancer. As I couldn’t allow my family member go without my support during such an ordeal, I put my book on hold for two years. Then I personally suffered some health issues, continuing to put my book on hold, yet continuing my advocacy work.

When writing my book, being a person of faith, I prayed God would send my book and myself where He wanted us to go, and bring the people into my life who could help me accomplish that. He has done that. I hate the limelight. That is out of my “comfort zone.” I prefer to do my work behind the scenes. The reality is I'm in my twilight years, have some mobility issues, and a face for radio. I don’t make it a habit to share videos of myself on social media. For me, my advocacy work is meant to educate and help people and is, and always will be, MOST important. However, I am seeing more often than not that many people are suffering similar experiences as I, and am hoping perhaps my book can help them. Therefore, I feel it would be selfish on my part not to take the risk of putting myself out there so they know they are not alone in their suffering and there is HOPE for them, no matter the obstacles they may be facing. I must not allow my fright to infringe on that goal. Therefore, recently I ventured into my FIRST EVER interview with a local cable television production company. My hope is that sharing my story in this interview will be inspiring and helpful to those it may reach. Trust me, this is NOT an effort for me to sell books, as I have given away more books than I can count. That is NOT what this is about. I

would like to thank the following people for being tremendously kind, patient, understanding, accommodating and supportive to me in this experience:

Vee Ellis,Television Executive Producer at The SacTown Insider; Katelyn Ellis, Studio Operations at Access Sacramento and the entire CREW; Alma Leiva, my amazing interviewer and who was kind enough to apply my make-up so I'd be presentable for the cameras; my husband Ed, who drove me to the studio (as I hate to drive as many know) and always has been my Rock; and my sister, Bettie, who fixed my hair and was, as always, a huge support.

My interview was captured on February, but will be aired on the following channels on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 8 pm PST. I don’t know if only local people can watch the live stream or if my friends on the East Coast can too. Just remember I’m 3 hours behind you there. There will be further announcements of other sites my interview can be seen in the near future, from what I hear.

So many of the advocates I work with have inspired me in so many ways and I want to thank you ALL! *Special thanks go to Jasmina Nikolov, Kammy Lee, Stevey Jones, Brian Donahue, Tammi Cricket Andrews, Kris L Phoenix, Mila Atas, LaTasha C. Watts and Pk Hill for their encouragement and support when I wasn't sure I'd have the confidence to do this.
